Comic Con was a huge success today for the Twilight movie, with thousands of fans lining up for nearly a mile to catch a glimpse of their favorite author and the cast of the movie.

SAN DIEGO — “Twilight” just rocked Hall H at Comic-Con, and MTV News was backstage as the film’s cast and crew nervously prepared to meet the crowd of 6,500 fans who could only be descried as thundering.

After cheering for the logo, the crowd began chanting “Twilight! Twilight!” as Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson and the others told us moments before going onstage that they had never heard anything like it. And they came with some big bombshells to drop.

Lautner came out to huge applause, followed by Cam Gigandet, Kristen Stewart and an eardrum-shattering roar for Pattinson. Author Stephenie Meyer and director Catherine Hardwicke were next, and if there was any doubt a phenomenon was in full effect, it had been erased…more

I pretty much failed at getting Bella Marius Twilight FanSite off the ground, due to lack of updates. I apologize for the few people who actually did read the posts.

However, I did want to post in reference to the latest illegal clip of Twilight. Not that I actually would watch something illegal [gasp], but if I had, I probably would have thought that it was a really good scene, and that it really heightened the anticipation for the movie.

Also, I in no way think that the makers of Twilight didn’t strategically release that clip to generate more noise about the movie.

Thoughts?

I’m a little apprehensive about the release of Breaking Dawn in a few months. While I can’t wait to get my paws on the newest Twilight Saga book, I’m a little afraid that Stephenie Meyer might crush my hopes and dreams. What if she decides to pair Bella with Jacob instead of Edward? What if Bella decides not the become a vampire, and grows old and dies instead? What if Edward kills Bella while trying to turn her?

Too many questions, and I am afraid of the answers. Then again, I don’t think Stephenie would deliberately break all of our hearts.

Would she?

The Host: Finished!

I finally finished The Host last night. As I had mentioned before, it took awhile for me to really get into it, because I am not a big fan of the more sci-fi books. However, it finally grabbed my attention, even if I felt that it was a bit slow in the beginning.

I thought the overall premise was good, if a little far-fetched for my tastes. Once it really got into the struggle of Melanie and Wanda as they battled with their feelings for both Jared and Jamie, along with the difficulties of befriending those who Wanda thought of as monsters, or at the very least cruel creatures, it really got interesting.

The basic idea behind the book is that the earth is invaded with parasitic “souls”, which take over the human consciousness of the hosts they occupy. However, in some cases, the take-over is not complete. In the case of our main character “Wanda” (or Wanderer), her host was still very much present in her mind.

A struggle for control ensues, resulting in Wanda retaining control of the body, but Melanie, the host, taking the wheel when it comes to emotions.

After months of struggle, Melanie decides that Wanda is trustworthy enough that she might safely persuade her to try to find her missing family and partner. In the process, Wanda nearly dies in the desert. However, the missing family finds her, and takes her in. They live in a series of underground caves, safe from the “Seekers” which track down native humans in order to insert “souls” into them.

Understandably, they distrust Wanda/Melanie, and many of the rebels want to kill her. Throughout the course of the book, there are many assassination attempts.

Wanda/Melanie are reunited with her brother and partner. The young brother believes Wanda when she tells him that Melanie is still alive in her mind. Jared, the lover, does not at first.

Wanda is very conflicted when it comes to her feelings concerning both of these people, since Melanie’s emotions become her emotions. As a result, she feels a motherly protection toward her teenage brother, and a lot of desire and love for Jared as well.

This changes somewhat when another man, Ian, becomes involved. He is one of the few people who chooses to befriend Wanda in the beginning. In fact, only he, Jeb (the old uncle who was the leader), and Jamie, her brother, would even get near Wanda.

Finally, for most of them, Wanda became an accepted fixture, even allowing her to help with raids and chores.

The main focus of the book seems to be her struggle with her feelings for Ian versus Melanie’s feelings for Jared. This ultimately leads to a rather climactic ending, which first made me cry, then made me very, very happy.

Overall, I would recommend reading this book, if you like romance, mystery and sci-fi at all.

I think Stephanie did a pretty good job with her first adult novel. I was a little confused about a couple of the twists, but overall, it was a decent read.

Virtuous Vampires

Stephanie Meyer is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Members of this church are commonly known as Mormons. I have plenty of experience with members of this church, since my husband and many members of his family are also members.

I’m unsure if Stephanie intended to reflect her beliefs in the Twilight saga, but I’ve noticed many terms and themes that are common within the LDS church.

First, there is the overall chaste behavior of Edward and his family. They are not overtly sexual in any way. Secondly, along these same lines, is the concept that Edward does not want to destroy Bella’s soul, nor prevent her from attaining a heavenly reward. Lastly, is the term “virtue” that is used regularly, at least in the later books. The concept of preserving “virtue” (aka virginity) until after marriage is very much something that is taught in the LDS church, specifically with the usage of the word “virtue”.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but these things stood out for me the second time through the series, due to my familiarity with Mormon beliefs.
